Barabbas or Jesus, Death or Life?

Psalm 1:1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

1. Walking; a daily, disciplined habitual way of living one’s life

2. Standing; the principles on which you value, place your trust and defend

3. Sitting; that which in which you are authoritatively and comfortably rested

The bible tells us we will be blessed

When we do not walk or live as the ungodly walk,

When we do not stand on, value or trust in the same principles as sinners and when we do not allow ourselves to be authoritatively comfortable around those who mock, scoff or scorn God, His people and His Word.

Barabbas was leader of the zealots, he was what we would describe today as a Social Justice Warrior. Judas too, was a zealot, a faithful follower of Barabbas. Many theologians believe as do I, that Judas actually believed Jesus was the Messiah, King of the Jews however, Judas did not understand what manner of spirit Jesus was seeking to develop in His disciples and ultimately all of His followers and mankind (See Luke 9:55). Judas had his own agenda in mind for Jesus, he did not see Jesus as the Lamb of God but as someone he could use to accomplish his own purposes ( see John 12:4-6). Ultimately Judas betrayed Jesus with the presumptuous mistaken idea that Jesus, rather than be taken captive, would have no other choice but to unleash His Heavenly army of angels, call down fire from heaven and lead Israel into victory against the Romans.

How does any of this relate to politics and the current presidential campaign?

Well one thing is certain, if you are daily pursuing a life of walking in the Light, in the Way of God and His Word, it would be contradictory for you to choose a candidate who is pursuing a policy or a program that is contrary to your Christian walk. Sadly, many so called “Christians” do just that but a Believer absolutely will not! A Believer will stand for Jesus no matter how loudly the mob cries out for Barabbas. A believer will stand for Jesus no matter who in the crowd is cajoling them to cry out for Barabbas.

A true believer will always choose Life!

Even though God foreknew what Judas would do, who would shout out for Barabbas over Jesus, all are still accountable for their own personal choice.

In the same way, you and I are accountable to no man for the choices we make but every person, believers and unbelievers alike are accountable unto God.

God gives us free will but the only righteous use of free will is to give it back to God. Jesus made that clear when He said,

"For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me" John 6:38

God not only gives us a choice but to help us choose wisely He tells us what to choose...nevertheless, in the end the choice is still yours.

Deuteronomy 30:19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

CHOOSE LIFE!!

God has made our choices very clear, now it's up to us to choose wisely, pray and ask God for guidance and if you are a Believer, I'm sure you will choose wisely

Maranatha!
